From early childhood, age 5 specifically, Liz experienced anxiety daily, which later led to depression, but this sense of existing in a state of fight or flight, was normal to her, as she grew accustomed to this sad reality until the birth of her daughter, 18 years ago.
Liz took her first yoga class 19 years ago, and fell instantly in love with the practice, but still battled her restless mind, especially when it came to the beginning of a class and more challenging at the end. She had always been active, and worked as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer in various settings for over 30 years, but struggled with the task of quieting her ruminating mind. After the birth of her daughter in 2003, her mental condition was exacerbated greatly by pregnancy induced hormones. For one year; she painfully suffered severe anxiety with debilitating depression. Slowly, she began to heal and her spiritual journey began on her mat. Yoga became her salvation; yoking mind, body and spirit, in a way that allowed Liz to be fully present, to each waking day—embracing her negative thoughts, her agitated body and her guarded heart. With this increased awareness and the profound positive effects on her brain; Liz continued to deepen and explore her yoga practice.
Liz dove into yoga with a renewed passion and after achieving powerful and compelling results; she pursued a teaching certification through Yoga Works, with the hopes of helping others experience the rewards of this ancient practice. Liz found that yoga creates a sacred, vulnerable space with a meaningful sense of connection that cannot be found anywhere else, and became dedicated to sharing her insights and passion with others. In 2011, she completed her six month training and has been teaching yoga for the past 10 years. Liz’s teaching style incorporates a grounding pace of breath work, combined with a strong emphasis on alignment and a splash of humor. Through safety and stability, along with modifications for poses, every student is encouraged to be fully present, in their unique practice. 'You don't need a flexible body to practice yoga; your flexibility begins in your mind.'
